Bio
Jill Stoddard grew up in rural New England, next to hundreds of acres of forest. She made her first drawing as a young child, of a woman holding a cow under her arm, and wrote her first story not long after, about a bear and an ice cube who became friends. She studied English and creative writing at university and spent her early adult years moving between the Bay Area and New England, writing for independent publications including Might magazine and McSweeney's, and working as an editor on literary fiction.
For the better part of two decades, she lived in Brooklyn, where her creative practice expanded into oil painting, drawing on found objects and cardboard, site-specific installations, and storytelling. She has since returned to New England, where she continues to write and make work.
