Bio

Jill Stoddard grew up in rural Massachusetts next to hundreds of acres of forest. Her first story at age 5 was about a bear and an ice cube who became friends. She studied English and creative writing at UMass / Amherst and spent her early adult years moving between the Bay Area, New York and Massachusetts, writing for independent publications including Might magazine and McSweeney's, and working as an editor on literary fiction.

For the better part of two decades, she lived in Brooklyn, where her creative practice expanded into oil painting, drawing on found objects and cardboard, site-specific installations, and storytelling. She has since returned to Massachusetts, where she continues to write and make work.
